Sadhana in Arzoo(1965)

Here comes the big one, and I can predict this post will be a very popular one on here due to all the Sadhana and 60's bollywood style searches that bring people to this blog. Sadhana was without doubt one of hindi cinema's most stylish heroines, her wardrobe in Arzoo was fantastic which pretty much reaffirms her reputation as one of Hindi cinema's finest dressers. What I found impressive about the styling was the variety of textures, layering and the wonderful accessories

One of my favourite Sadhana fashion moments occurred in this film when she paired this amazing fairisle knit (very stylish even today) with ski pants, that jumper is to die for, i love it

Loving the studded diamanté sunglasses teamed with a cosy jumper and fur hat and gloves, Aspen chic at its best

Next up on my favourites lists is this embroidered floral sari teamed with lovely Ruby accessories

Love the clean and rather minimal style of this Coral chiffon sari, Sadhana is really a doll

Lovely embroidery designs on this sari with a sleeveless blouse, Sadhana in general seemed to favour the sleeveless blouse style sari's

I love how editorial these shots look, I love the cardigan teamed with the Churidar Kameez outfit with the bouffant hairstyle and side plait and the wing tipped eyeliner and peachy lips

Sadhana (above and below) in her trademark sleeveless kurta and Churidar style which is credited for turning into a major style craze

In a rather interesting ensemble to reflect the cold weather of the Kashmir, by layering a knitted top with cotton sleeveless kurta and churidar

The rest of the movie features a layering of traditional outfits over top quality statement coats, I loved them all, especially the last one above, love the binoculars hanging off her neck too

In fact the whole feel and styling of this movie by the great costumier Bhanu Athaiya is an editorial waiting to happen, I hope fashion magazines in India will start making editorials based on bollywood movies, especially ones like this.

Rajendra Kumar in Arzoo (1965)

I have always had a soft spot for Rajendra Kumar and of late I've realised when it comes to style, he was definitely one of Hindi movies most stylish heroes. Here in Arzoo, his style varies from lovely knitted Jumpers to well tailored suits and coats and statement sunglasses, from now on I have to pay more attention to his style particularly his style in the 60's.

A huge part of the movie is set in Kashmir which has a much cooler climate than other parts of India this allowed for plenty of layering, which explains the amount of Jackets and knitwear

Loved his total look here from the smart bomber jacket to the red polo top and those wayfarers, fab! Rajendra, fab!

Next up was this lovely Alpine/Fairisle style knit teamed with a snazzy pair of wayfarers

I love this close up shot of him, he looks great and I really really really want those sunglasses

Loved his 60's style suit with skinny lapels which i prefer over the wide style style of the 70's

Loved that overcoat on him, in fact the general style of layering in this movie was fantastic

In yet another overcoat, love the stripy tie and the way its been knotted half Windsor style

Feroz Khan in Arzoo (1965)

Feroz Khan didn't have as much screen presence as i would have liked in this film, he played a supporting role, but he looked quite stylish in the few scenes I screen capped of him, I 'm sure he had more outfits but I was so distracted by Sadhana and Rajendra Kumar's outfits which I shall be sharing on here later, below are the looks from Feroz i loved in the movie

I loved him in this skinny suit with narrow lapels paired with a white shirt and pastel yellow skinny tie

That's a lovely cut leather Jacket

I love the strong shoulders on that stylish leather Jacket

Zeenat Aman in Ajanabee (1974)

The Queen Bee finally arrives as she had the most screen time to display lots of fabulous fashions in this cute bollywood drama. Zeenat Aman simply looked gorgeous in this film from boldly printed neon sari's, to puffy blouses, of all the cast in this movie she undoubtedly had the best wardrobe, so off we go then

Zeenat's character as Reshmi is introduced in this bold printed Shirt and knitted beret combo with white flared trousers

next up was this puffy sleeved blouse paired with polka dot bottoms and a matching polka dot bow tie

This blouse is tres chic, i loved her in it

Loved her in this yellow shirt with contrast Ikat print collar and cuffs

In yet another similar outfit but with huge yellow beads, her make up was mostly fresh faced, accentuated with rose blusher and soft pink lips

Lovely printed tie blouse with a rather interesting pair of flared trousers, I'm not so sure of the panty line stitching but somehow it works

Here she is a lovely knitted short sleeve cardigan with a pair of jazzy printed pants

In a lovely pink wrap top and floral printed palazzo pants

Loving the 90's Versace-esque outfit the girl on the left is wearing (majorly fab)the lady on the right isn't looking shabby either

She took part in a fashion show in the movie wearing a gorgeous wrap crop top and a white floor length skirt with black stripes, see funky 70's bollywood outfits in the video clip from the movie below

Zeenat also wore some lovely eye popping floral saris in breath taking neon shades and colours

J'adore!! I absolutely loved her in this Neon pink floral sari and flat sandals, she looked great

In yet another lovely printed sari

I love the way she wraps them over her body, lovely chiffon sari as usual

Now that's a fantastic floral print chiffon sari, I want a shirt in that exact fabric

Loved her in this white Churidar kameez ensemble

Lovely hairdo and just as fab complementary make up, check out those perfectly lined eyes

Asrani in Ajanabee (1974)

I loved Asrani's wardrobe in this film, his clothes outshone that of the main hero (Rajesh Khanna), his role in this was that of an art director and Painter. His wardrobe included everything from printed Shirts to colourful neckties, velvet blazers, bow ties and Huge rounded tinted sunglasses. I was lusting after every one of his clothes in this film

I love his Yellow shirt with the Navy velvet Blazer, paisley tie and Striped pants and Tinted rounded shades combo

I forgive the Fu Manchu moustache as I love the mix of patterns on the Blazer, shirt and neck tie

Looking very suave Asrani, if there's anything I'd change it would be the shirt, it's a bit too busy for a Statement jacket like that

I'm in love with that Hounds tooth Jacket, it reminds me very much of Tom Ford's designs for Gucci.

Lots of love for this printed shirt, i would wear it in a heartbeat

Yet another lovely printed shirt and I love how he kept wearing them with huge rounded sunglasses, makes me want to get one

Leena Das in Ajanabee (1974)

Leena Das one of the side characters who played Zeenat's friend in the movie barely had enough screen time but she made my head turn in the two scenes she featured in

I loved her in this orange Suit, from the flared pants to the belted jacket

Lovely neck tie too

How very modern is that swimsuit she's in, those styles of swimsuit were hugely popular in the 90's. Hurray for 70's Bollywood fashion

Rajesh Khanna in Ajanabee (1974)

As the male lead in this very enjoyable drama I found Rajesh's wardrobe pretty uninspiring and he was outshone all through the movie by his co stars, still though there were a few things to Love

Showing his very hairy chest in a White safari suit

I love the rather groovy pattern on his Tie and shirt

My favourite of all his outfits here was this Pink tweed suit paired with a fuchsia paisley tie

While I loved the idea of a pink tweed suit, I hated the fit of it on him, had the tailoring been more smarter this would have been a fantastic look for him

Yogeeta Bali in Ajanabee (1974)

One of my favourite bollywood beauties Yogeeta Bali had a spectacular look I couldn't help but admire in the 1974 movie Ajanabee (Strangers). I loved everything from her trench to the high volume hair and fresh face make up

Loving that pompadour style hair and slightly vampy make up

I love the Green mac with the black/navy piped detailing running through it

that fab coat was paired with a Turtle neck and a wrap skirt that had the same shade of green on the mac running through it

Loving that clean structured boxy handbag she is carrying in the shot above, such retro fabness

Fabulous Fashion in 70's Bollywood Movie Ajanabee

I can't stop admiring this outfit from the lovely 1974 drama Ajanabee (Stranger) I have no idea who the lady wearing the outfit is but I'm in love with the way she pulls it off

First off, I adore the speckled graphic print on the top half

I love the clashing print on the bottom end of the dress, i assumed it was a top and skirt combo at first, but it looks very much like a dress

Not to talk of the accessories, from the crotchet headpiece, to the earrings and necklace, this girl is the quintessential 70's bollywood funky fashion doll

Can anyone Identify who she is

Hema Malini in Raja Jani (1972)

I was totally in awe of Hema Malini's look in Raja Jani, its retro bollywood chic at its best, from her lovely Chiffon sari's, to gypsy village girl looks, flares, beaded tops, this movie just provided so much fashion candy

We're first introduced to her character as a village belle where she wears gypsy style skirts and fitted blouses with veils

She's introduced to us as the fiery village belle Shanno in nothing other than gypsy skirts, blouses and veils over the top of her head

Her Character is given a city girl makeover by Suave con man Raja (Dharmendra - who we discussed in the previous post). The first look upon the makeover was her in this lovely beaded top and black flared trouser combo

I love how cheeky she looks here

A very stylish look, that beaded top was beautiful on its own but i like the cinched in waist

I love the cut out details on the black flare pants, they were accentuated with the same beads on the top

I love the fresh faced make up here accentuated by the dramatic eyes and soft peach/pink lipstick

The ultimate 70's bollywood babe, the pearl/bead detailing on that top is gorgeous

Another favourite was this flower power top and she looked oh so cute with Raja (Dharmendra) in one of the scenes when she starts falling in love with him

I think she's the only one who can get away with wearing this, I love how she's matched her earrings to the flowers

they both look oh so adorable in this shot

Nest up was this orange tunic paired with a pair of black pants, her eye make up was fantastic and the screen cap do them no justice, you just have to see for yourself

her fashion got playful here with a funky polka dotted blouse and yellow crocheted hat

I love how playful she looks in this quite dorky hat below

her wardrobe also included some floor length dresses with high neck collars, i think these were my least favourite looks of all her wardrobe

I like the floor length vest she's sporting in the pictures below waistcoat

I love the make up and total look here

Great silhouette on this gown but all the white beaded detailing is throwing me off a bit but she looks fab

One of my favourite looks if not my favourite was when she wore a Purple tunic with an orange belt and some knee length gladiator style sandals and a Silk paisley head scarf (J'adore!!!)

Freakin' Fabulous

Those Sandals are to die for, a great look all around

The rest of her look in the film were Sari's, some lovely lovely ones at that

I really liked this pink floral chiffon sari

Looking regal in this gold sequined sari

in yet another embellished sari, but the necklace is the start here

Overall a great look and transition from a Village Belle to a city girl, the clothes suited her character and she pulled it off darn well, a great job by the stylist/costumer Leena Daru with just as great complementary make up by Dinoo Indulkar &Krishna Chaubal

Dharmendra in Raja Jani (1972)

Suave Dharmendra

Dharmendra's style in this film is what I'd call 'cool mobster', I loved most if not all of his outfits in this cute retro rom com. His style ranged from from Bright suits, smart jumpers, sleek tuxedos paired with Kentucky bow ties and a funky bath robe too

I absolutely loved him in this herringbone suit paired with a Lilac shirt and what looks like a paisley tie, all the colours compliment each other, Tres fab!

Lovely and effortless pairing of double breasted Jacket and Turtle neck polo

I love the idea of combining two shades of blue

Wicked combo Dharmendra! take note guys, notice how he has paired his stripy blazer with a pair of block coloured pants

I loved him in this strappy waist coat, its very 70's, I'm not sure how it'd work now, It was paired with a pair of pants in the same colour

Those sunglasses are cool

This double waisted waistcoat outfit looked great on him, but I doubt most everyday folks will be able to pull it off

Looking very dandy in a waistcoat, shirt and cravat combo

Superb sunglasses once more

he looked might dapper in this cream Dinner jacket with a kentucky bow tie and those sunglasses round off the outfit beautifully

This is one of my all time favourite looks from Dharmendra, I'm in love with his bright Orange (or is it coral) Dinner Jacket paired with a white shirt, kentucky bow tie and black pants, tres Chic!!!

This was the only traditional look he had in this film, and he looked might fine in his sherwani and Pagri combo

I loved that shirt on him, what a nice print, its something I'd wear

I'm not a big fan of the hem line on the pants here and i think they bring down the whole look, the trousers should have been pulled down a bit, I think he might be wearing it a bit too high

Lovely shirt and what a Handsome man Dharmendra is

yet another printed silk shirt, I love this one more

he also wore some lovely Jumpers, I love the stripy detail on the polo neck above

Showing off some legs in his tennis outfit

This should have all Dharmendra's fans drooling, and that is a lovely bath robe

here he is in yet another funky robe

Overall Dharmendra's wardrobe in this film was to die for, and it totally suited his character as a conman, major appreciation to his Costumer whom the movie credits as Ram Multani, his IMDb page lists a few other films where he was in charge of costuming, I'll definitely have to check them out as I was impressed with his work in this

Dev Anand in Johnny Mera Naam (1970)

The best way I'd describe Dev Anand's style in this film as 'Preppy Americana Cool'

Love the candy striped shirt teamed with paisley print scary, very cool

Brown leather jacket, candy stripe shirt and a silk scarf, very cool Dev

I love his attitude here with the unbuttoned shirt and the white t shirt underneath completed with a silk chocolate scarf

There's something that just screams Americana Cool about his baseball jacket with the red yellow red cuffs worn on top a stripy shirt, looks like Dev definitely loves his stripy shirts.

Overall Dev Anand has a Preppily cool dress sense that looks just as stylish 40 years on.

Below is a cool song from Johnny Mera Naam where we get to see awesome Dev in his Preppy Gear wooing Hema Malini, this song was also featured at the end of the 2006 Simpson's episode 'Kiss Kiss, Bang Bangalore'

Fabulous is how i would describe Hema Malini's style in this very enjoyable masala suspense 70's caper

Hema was nothing but pure gorgeousness in this film, love the shades on her

as well as the fab cocktail rings

Loved her in the red turtle neck with the multi strand necklaces

also loved her in her tribal get up

and not forgetting my favourite the two toned black & turquoise Sari matched with turquoise accesories, 100% super wow

Sunil Dutt in Pran Jaye Par Vachan Na Jaye (1973)

I shall join the rest of the bolly blogs who having a 70's moment to post some funky 70's fashion worn by one of my all time favourite bollywood actors Sunil Dutt

Funky is how i'd describe Sunil's satorial choices in Pran Jay Par Vachan Na Jaye(1973)

Hmmm a lovely white sash around the waist check out the discolicious doors

Lovely green jacket i need one right now, i love the way he's accessorised with the gold choker chain

Sunil wears this with so much attitude gotta love his pose in the last screen cap, here's an outfit i'd definitely wear to terrorise my town folks with my fashionista abilities

Asha Parekh in Shikar (1968)

I totally loved Asha Parekh's sleveless Churidar Khameez in this classic supense movie

I love the plastic metal discs added to the blouse and her necklace

it's a beautiful outfit even by today's standards, I love the way she's paired her Kurta's with a pair of pointy kitten Heels

Rekha in Khoon Bhari Maang (1988)

Rekha's fashion in this movie is playful, fun,edgy and a wee bit over the top (fabulously so). It seems the stylist was inspired by the fashion in the top soap operas of the time like Dynasty & Return to Eden where the film in fact got its inspiraton, there are also shades of Grace Jones in her styling

I loved this scarf and sunglasses combo, this style was very popular in the 80's and Rihanna was recently seen in something similar
